(birthdate: 11/5/40)

in’ Wancouver sporting
history. John Giles’ first vear
as a head coach in the NASL
was an unqualified success
He took a team that was 16-
16 in 1980 and molded them
into top form, finishing the
1981 season with a 21-11
record and 186 points —
third best in the’ entire

the Northwest Division

Lorimer was a_ steadying
influence on the young Caps
side this past year. He ap-

goals and 17 assists for 33
points.

of Wales. Yorath appeared

NASL debut vear in 1980,

Harvey appeared well on his
wav toa banner year in 1981
— then disaster struck. The
veteran Scottish in-
ternauonal was involved ina
single-car mishap on April
25 suffering a cracked bone
in his neck that sidelined him
the rest of the season.
Harvey was the NASL’s
leading keeper at the time
with a 0.43 goals against
average in 4 games with 2
Shutouts After months of
therapy Harvey finally had
the neck brace come off in
late August and he began
workouts in preparation for
the club’s post-season tour.

No. 8 Willie Johnston-
Forward

He: §-7, Wes 158
Years/NASL: 3, Age 35

Everybody's favorite.
Johnston returned to the
Whitecaps this season in a
move that caught everyone
by surpnse. The feisty little
Scotush veteran was with the
Caps during their Soccer
Bowl winning season of 1979
and part way through 1980
before he returned to
Glasgow Rangers, the team
where he originally made his
name as’ a fleet and
aggressive winger. Wilhe has
made 22 appearances for
Scotland including the 1978
World Cup in Argentina.
