The Watertront Task Force report details a long-range vision of the water- trone offering a mix of residential, com- mercial and recreational opportunities, with improved physical and visual acces- sibility for all districe residents. Yes, the cost could amount to $53 million — a figure that will be well- known to the public by the time the ret erendum question will be put to voters OX ce facts some Two months from now. What the editorial conveniently chose not to mention, however, is that the plan would be implemented over a period of 50 plus years! So to accuse dishonesty in the phras- ing of the referendum question because it lacked a good guess regarding the possible cost is thus a moot point if you do not include the overall time period of the implementation. But more to the point is the dishon- esty and fear-mongering being spread around the sommunity by vested inter- ests opposed to the Waterfront ‘Task Force plan. The referendans is not about money bur the principle by which the water- tront vision will be realized. Itis a faer that only about 5% of the Community Guide approximately 300 private properties on our waterfront are identified ia the plan for future purchase by the district if and when they come on the market. Roughly 20% would need only to be “flipped” with a 20-foot waterfront strip dedicated for public right-of-way. No propertics are to be expropriat- ed. There is also much more to the vision than the purchase of some key propertics. Why didn’t the
