“democracy.” Hence my
interest in the country. And
recently 1 saw-how the Brits
were making all that fuss
over nice Mr. Nelson
Mandela.

‘A slight exaggeration, per-
haps. More likely it gripped
Brixton, a black ghetto.

How times change. Only

Thatcher was describing

Nice Mr. Mandela WAS
a terrorist. That's why he
went to jail. And he was
lucky not to be strung up.
But it seems there are good
terrorists and bad terrorists.

you are on, whether you
win, and what the excuses

Begin of Israel was seen as
a good terrorist, So was
Yitzhak Rabin, one of his
SUCCESSOFS as prime minister
who died at the hands of
another terrorist.

Yasser Arafat, the
Palestinian, was always
seen asa bad terrorist. In
crazy Northern ireland,
meanwhile, good terrorists
and bad terrorists prolifer-
ate, depending on whether
you are Catholic or
Protestant.

good terrorism in South
Africa. They should be,
because South Africa could.

the BBC's foreign affairs
editor went into chilling
detail under the headline:
“Mandela's paradise lost.”

“The violence affects
everyone.” he wrote.
“blacks even more than
whites. In a population of
40 million there are 52 mur-
ders a day.

Everyone you meet.
everyone you speak to,
knows someone who has
been attacked or killed
recently.”

The BBC was, of course,
always beating the drum for
a “New South Africa.” Just
like the CBC, Times
change, as I say.
