North Vancouver City was es- tablished in May, 1907, while THE DISTRICT OF NORTH VANCOUVER 34 CELEBRATION 100 = A once-in-a-hundred years event! — North Vancouver District marks 100th anniversary West Vancouver District came to be in March, 1912. An anecdotal and photographic history of the area is presented in Reflections: 100 Years, an attrac- tive coffee table book written by Vancouver author Chuck Davis and available for $24.95 in local book stores. The rich heritage of North Vancouver District was com- memorated with a Pioneers’ Garden Party on July 31, and was the theme of many colorful pos- ters submitted by clementary school children as part of the District’s Centennial poster con- test. The Mayor of the District of North Vancouver during this Cen- tennial Year is His Worship Mur- tay Dykeman. His council members are Ald. Rick Buchols, Ald. Ernie Crist, Ald. Jim Cuthbert, Ald. Celebrations continue THE SPIRIT of the Centennial has been felt at many of the an- nual community days held in North Vancouver. The North Vancouver District Centennial helped with the pro- motions and some of the costs in- volved at the Penguin Plunge, the Lions Easter Egg Hunt, Lynn Valley Day, Edgemont Village Day, the King Neptune Carnival and Canada Day Celebrations, and will be a festive presence at many more community events. Sull to come are Deep Cove Days (Saturday, Sept. 7), Edge- mont Village’s Bavarian Days (Saturday, Sept. 7), the Under the Volcano Youth Fest (Sunday, Aug. 18 in Cates Park), the Remembrance Day Service on November 11 and Christmas festivities, dates for which have yet to be determined. Another major Centennial event was the B.C. Festival of the Arts, a showcase for young performers from across the province, which took place in May.
