voted 4-3 to defer Imperial Oil's
application until the company could
discuss alternate building designs
wilh the city’s design panel.

Although planning department
slaff were supportive of the propos-
al,.the city’s advisory design panel
and advisory planning commission
both rejected it.

While the planning commission
was unsupportive because its long-
term plan for the area involves con-
version to a pedestrian mall, (he
design panel didn’t approve the
appearance of the proposed build-
ings.
“Hf we don’t start asking for high
standards and excellent design, we
won't get it,” Coun, Barbara
Perreault said. “And Lonsdale ts so
visible and so prominent.”

But Coun. Bill Bell countered:
“EP don’t have a problem with this
gas station. Ht looks like a yas sta-
tion, | think that’s the problem the
design panel has with it.” fo

Entitled “Youth ‘Today: A Focus
on Solutions,” the forum will take
place April 28 in the theatre at West
Vancouver secondary school.

“It is being entirely planned by
them (the young members Af the
committee),” said Conn, Diana
Hutchinson at the April 11) meeting
of West Vancouver District Council.

The forum will open with a short
drama about the changes in the lives
of young people over the past
decades,

A mediated panel discussion will
follow, with four youths and four
adults.
