Both children and parents have a tough time coping with the disorder. Said Qureshi, ‘“‘These kids are very hard to discipline. With another child you tell the child, satisfy the kid’s curiosity and tell them the rules. But with atten- tion-deficit disordered kids if you tell them ‘no’, it doesn’t have any effect. “Also with other kids praise is very effective: you praise them, pesitively reinforce them and they respond to that. But when a child has this difficulty you can praise them, it sticks for two minutes and then it is gone again.’’ ADHD children also require a for of attention. Said Qureshi, ‘‘They are very demanding. The parents get very fittle support. Everybody thinks that it is their fault that they have these ‘brats’.’” The inaugural meeting of the mutual support group is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Feb. 5, in the education centre of North Shore Health, Sixth Floor, 132 W. Esplanade in North Vancouver. Qureshi stresses that the primary goal of the group will be to foster mutual support. “*It will not be a parent training or therapy group.
