Brian Smith, aged 23, of 1848 West 3rd. Street, m Vancouver, had climbed half way up the west side of the canyon opposite the Canyon Gardens restaurant when he became stuck. He was spotted by someone on the east side of the canyon, who called for help. West Vancouver firemen went to the scene but because of the steepness of the canyon he could not be. seen from that side. Two of boys, who were aged 14 and 15 became stranded on a rock after the dinghy flipped in rapids and firemen had to use kayaks to reach the boys and then switch clothes with them because the boys had become so cold in the water.
