LIONS GATE CABLES CLEARED

It’s official - there's
nothing to worry about over
the question of safety of the
suspension cables holding up
Lions Gate Bridge.

An engineer's report mado
following laboratory analysis
of the wrappings around the
cables shows there is ab-
solutely no problem, ac-
cording to Peter Buckland,
of the engineering con-
sultants Buckland and
Taylor.

Concern was raised as a
result of a scare story by the
Vancouver Express, the

newspaper put out by Pacific
Press staff during the strike
of Vancouver's daily papers,
which implied that because
tests were being made there
might well be a danger of the
bridge collapsing.

TIME FOR A CHECK-UP,

But the tests were made as
a double check
precautionary measure after
advanced corrosion was
found in the cables of a
similar bridge inthe eastern
United States because of
atmospheric conditions
there and show that such
corrosion has not taken
place at Lions Gate. :

But, according to
evidence presented earlier in
West Vancouver Provincial
Court the man persisted in
trying to talk to the woman,
both directly and through
friends, and also attempted
to visit the daughter which
had been born after they
stopped living together.

The latest incident oc-
cured after the man heard
through friends ‘that the
woman was in hospital and
was in danger of going blind.

Ryan told the court
