The Tour For A Friend is a com- munity-based fundraising bike tour in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. The tour is a partnership with the RCMP, Municipal Police, and BC Emergency Services. This six-day bike tour launches in Whistler, carries on through the Fraser Valley and Finishes in Vancouver at the Pacific Space Center. Each day of the tour the riders will complete an aver- age of 100km of challenging terrain. There will be a total of 24 bike riders on the tour. Officers riding on the tour are fund-raising in their communities. The goal is to raise $250,000 for cancer research and child relat- ed cancer projects. To raise money, the officers are planning var- ious events including head-shaves, selling t-shirts and asking the community for pledges. One in three Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime; a staggering statistic! Funds raised from the Tour For A Friend will go towards research and child related cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society offers a range of services, unpar- alleled anywhere, including; The National Cancer Information Services, driving patients to and from treatments, operating youth and family camps, providing smoking cessation programs, and raising awareness of prostrate ond breast cancer issues. The Tour For A Friend bike tour will take place from Sept. 27- Oct. 2, 1999. During that week mention that you saw this “Ask Wayne” when you drop off your Drycleaning and a donation of $1.00 for each garment received will be made to this very worth- while cause.
