Fires still
a burning
issue at

WV beach

was fuming last
Saturday night when
West Van firefighters
doused beach fires in
Ainbleside Park,

The North Vancouver resi-
dent read in a recent News
that West Vancouver council
banned fires on West Van-
couver’s Ambleside Beach.
But after scouting out the
beach on Saturday, Sidelinen
discovered signs that designat-
ed a fire-burning area on the
beach. A friend from Ontario
was visiting, and Sidelmen fig-
ured a beach fire at sunset
would be a great way to give
his castern friend a taste of
West Coast aunosphere. He
was not alone.

Turns out they were.
“The message is that fires
on West Vancouver beaches
are prohibited,” said West Van

Parks’ Kevin Pike yesterday.
“Pm surprised these (new
signs) are not up...”
