ENROLMENT in West Van-
couver District 45 schools increas-
ed this year compared with last
year.

According to a report presented
to the District 45 board Monday,
5,574 students were enrolled in the
district’s schools as of the end of
September, up 179 students com-
pared with last year’s figures.

In the report prepared by assis-
tant superintendent John Calder,
total enrolment figures didn’t in-
clude this year’s 131 foreign stu-
dents who numbered 45 last
September, 25 in 1989 and nine in
1988.

“Is it going 10 pose a problem
if we get many more foreign stu-
dents in the future?"’ said trustee
Margot Furk.

Superintendent Doug Player
said that an annual review of
foreign students was done at
budget time when the fees from
foreign students were added to the
budget.

The total enrolment figures i:
cluded 20 home schoolers (stu-
dents taught at home usually by a
parent).

Calder said an equal number of
home schoolers were at the
primary and secondary levels.

Last: year, home schoolers
numbered 37 in the district.

The enrolment report said West
Vancouver District 45 showed
growth at all levels and a four-
year trend of declining secondary
enroiment was reversed this year.

According to the report, Sen-
tinel Secondary’s enrolment went
up by IO1 students; Hillside Mid-
dle School was up 37 students;
and West Vancouver Secondary
School’s enrolment dropped by 29
students.
