especially happy Sunday
morning for man-about-
everything, John Pozer!

The news is that he has a brand
new job! The guy who began as
Vancouver's premier Games Man,
service club worker, marketing
director, promoter and PR person
has just been appointed as the
hew general manager of the
Downtown Vancouver Business
Improvements Assaciation.

West Van's Ron Downey, the
president of the Association and
the Board of Directors, which also
includes such North Shore
luminaries as Ed Keate of
Downtown parking, Alan Sacks,
GM of Delta Place Hotet, Bentall
Group's Jim Rattenburg, Urbanics
Consultants’ Philip Boname and
the Eaton’s Delcie Bewley, have
decided that John Pozer fits the
bill perfectly.

John was introduced officially
at the annual general meeting of
the Downtown Vancouver BIA
last Wednesday night at the CN
imax Theatre at Canada Place...

And it was some swinging
wing-ding at the Vancouver Trade
and Convention Centre on Tues-
day evening. That was the fund-
raising dinner, auction and salute
to West Van-Howe Sound’s
hard-working MLA, the Hon.
John Reynolds, Minister of the
Environment.

It was a very gala evening for
John and friends and while it
wasn’t blacktie, it definitely was
dressy! John’s wife, Yvonne
Reynolds, who is always very
fashionable, looked especially chic
in black velvet and gold lame.

over the suceess of Fantasy Food
2000, North Van District Mayor
and Socred candidate Marilyn
Baker, former politico Bill Reid
and his wife, Marion, Bruce and
Mogyra Pepper and dinner chair-
man Ron Wood.

It was Yvonne who told me that
everyone in the happy crowd had
paid — there were no Treebies!...

The Environment Minister was
also out in Maple Ridge last
Saturday, taking a keen interest in
the new state-of-the-art recycling
centre.

This is the one being run by the
Ridge Meadows Recycling Society,
an organization which began ‘way
back in 1972. They now have a
spanking new facility, made
possible by support from the
municipality, GO B.C. and the
GVRD.

Of particular interest to John
was B.C. Hydro’s Power Smart

_ “fridge buy-back program.”’ I'm

told that more than 960 old
energy-guzzling, beer and pop
fridges have been brought in by
the society for $50 each...

It’s also been a busy, exciting
week for hotelier Denis Forristal
of West Van. On Tuesday even-
ing, the general manager of the
Westin Bayshore had a very im-
portant guest in for dinner. His
name was Andrei Anikin, and he
is Soviet President Mikhail Gor-
bachev’s closest advisor.

Mr. Anikin was here as guest
speaker at a prestigious Board of
Trade dinner which was hosted by
West Van's Wendy McDonald,
president of the Vancouver Board
of Trade and the first female

His speech wasn't as exciting as
l expected with his subject, ‘‘The
Owner’s View of the Media,”’ but
he made the perfect foil for the
guest of houior’s more bombastic,
fiery approach.
