Fatigue
blamed for
tennis ace's
tourney loss

SONYA Jeyaseelan, North Van-
couver'’s J}-year-old tennis ace,

reached the quarter finals of the

prestigious Phoenix — Fiesta Bowl

Junior Tennis Championship

tournament recently.

Jeyaseelan lost a hard-fought
closely contested three-set match to
number-two seeded Janet Lee of
Palos Verdes, Calif., 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Seeded number seven in the
United States Tennis Association-
sanctioned tournament's under-12
event, Jeyascelan had an easy time
until she reached the quarter
finals.

‘‘What else can I say. Sonya ran
out of steam at the end of the
gruciling match,”’ said father and
coach Reggie Jeyaseelan. ‘‘I really
expected Sonya to win this tour-
nament, because I knew the top
seeds and their level of game.

“Sonya is technically far superi-
or and she is playing very well. She
was well prepared for this tourna-
ment, but does not have the
strength to last long matches. J
have to find a way to build her
stamina.”"

The following week, jeyaseclan
played in the Copper Bow! Junior
Tennis Championships tournament
held in Tucson, Ariz.

Jeyascelan was bounced out in
the second round by number-two THE CAPILANO Rugby Club junior squad (in black) played the touring Lindisfarne College team from Hastings, New Zealand, recently and was
