CHAMPS Sabres slash to top THE EBIGHTH-RANKED Sutherland Sabres clipped the heavily favored Templeton Titans 2-1 Saturday, to win the B.C. high school boys soccer championship. The Jacal squad won consecutive games over North Delta, Eric Hamber, Penticton and Oak Bay to qualify for Saturday's final against the number-one ranked Titans. Playing on a soggy field at the Norwegian Seamen's Centre, the Sabres struck first when Dave Florvento, the team’s leading scorer, headed a pass from right winger Todd Moody past Titan goalie Dennis Pavan, Paul Geutteres scored the second Sabres’ goal on a similar cross. Templeton got its only goal when Domenic Mobilio scored from a scramble in front of spot Sutherland's net. Coach Darvl Samson said his Sabres team put ina ‘fine afl round performance in what wits supposed to be aur year to rebuild." The Sabres, Samson said. had fost nine players to graduation in 1986. In the lust four years, the Sabres have placed fifth, first, third and first’ respectively in the B.C, championships.
