Dog bites dog, law bites man A West Vancouver man has been found guilty of harbouring a vicious dog, after it attacked another dog, in a conviction that the West Vancouver bylaws officer says is the first of its kind. Brian Fraser, of 1262 Duchess Avenue, was convicted, August 7. and fined $50 as well as being assessed $200 in veterinary fees. Bylaws officer Lloyd Taytor said that Fraser's German Shepherd was first reported to have attacked another dog on February 5. Then a week later while Robern Smith was taking a neighbor's dog out for a walk it was attacked and bitten, Taylor said. Smith called the police and a charge was laid under Section 7 of West Van's dog bylaw which prohibits somebody from “keeping or harbouring a vicious dog.” The matter went to court, Taytor said. and Fraser was found guilty While Taylor said there was not a specific court order, Fraser would have to permanently confine the dog or have ut destroyed. “The reason I'm con- cemed about tt is that a lot of people think they can keep a vicious animal on their property to protect tt and this is not) so” said Taylor “Hs the principle of at The details arent rcalty important Taylor said he thought at was the first time somebody bas cven taken anybody to court over such an incident aod that the case ~ consequences of shows the owning a vicous dog EXCHANGE STUDENTS from Chiba, near Tokyo, enjoyed a tour of West Vancouver Friday conducted by Mayor Derrick Humphreys.
