The event’s organizer, Deep Cove businesswoman Janet Pavlik, was “nervously optimistic” as she left yester- day to oversee final prepara- tions for next week’s perfor- rane. Eight choirs from Vancouver Island-to Prince Vaward Island are scheduled to sing under the baton of guest conductor Robert Cooper. Pavlik, as president of Neworld Discovery Programs, coordinated a simi- jar event two years ago. “We did it in 1995 and it was a huge success, show- casing Canadian talent, featuring Canadian composers’ works.” The Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir, cele- brating its 75th aniversary will bring its adult choir plus the Assiniboine South Youth Choir. Women of Note, also from Winnipeg, and Neworld are spearheading an effort to have donations from tickets to the concert chan- neled to the Winnipeg Flood Relief program.
