Sieame Dear Editor: Re: Keep strollers off WV seawall (May 21 News). Being the father of an 18- month-old boy myself’ [was most offended by the remarks made by a certain Mr. and Mrs. Sean Allan. T usually go . on the seawall with my son and his stroller. To date we have not met anyone with such a sour outlook on people . With strollers on the seawall. All the people we have come across have been polite and friendly. If we see people in our way we either waie for a wide section in the seawall and pass them by or we stop and admire the view. T have had people stop themselves and ict us go on our way with nothing more than “sorry for holding you up. The thing is we don’t all walk fast and bump into everyone and everybody. what J want to know is who gave them control over who should and should not be on “their beloved scawall?” All I have to say before | go is, Mr and Mrs. Allan, “Keep on strolling.” David Horsfield Burnaby Dear Editor: . T am writing in response to the thought-provoking letter printed in your May 21 cdi- * tion entitled “Keep strollers off WV seawall.” With all duc respect to seniors, including the writer and her husband who unfor- tunately suffered a sore ankle and possible bruised tendon from being clipped by a dou- ble stroller, is licensing or ban- ning strollers from the séawall perhaps a little overkill? Perhaps next wheelchairs might be banned or require licensing? A thought: life starts on “wheels” (strollers) and in many cases is depen- dent on them as well in fater years. . Being in my middle years, I would definitely not like to see any public place off-limits to anyone dependent on wheels, cither younger or older, To quote the writer, the West Vancouver seawall should be a place for “all to . chjoy.” Perhaps a letter to the edi- tor appealiig to parents or grandparents pushing strollers to exercise a little more cau- tion and consideration would have been inore appropriate. Laura Hall. ; North Vancouver ~~ DHall2502@aol.com Dear Editor: Re: Mr. and Mrs. Sean Allen’s May 21 letter to the _. editor suggesting the banning of baby strollers from the sea- wall because her husband has been clipped in the ankle by one of those “vehicles” and will probably suffer a bruise. ~~ E¥ow about banning those esky joggers? I am sure that paey ‘he first seawall was invented, no one could have predicted that one day people would be health conscious and fitness-oriented to the point of running instead of walking. Why, they must make such a nuisance of themselves weaving in and out of the walkers. And what about peo- ple in wheelchairs? Can you | Then | north shore news MAIL BOX , came the licensing of the walker... ‘imagine how many elderly ankles are at the mercy of these (often motorized) chairs? And, -of course, what about those people who chat incessantly as the stroll the scawall? Must we be subjected to their constant jabbering as we try to walk and enjoy the nice weather? : So we have now eliminated babies, joggers, physically challenged, and friendly peo- ple from the seawall. All that remains is as Mrs. Allen put it, “seniors who tend to walk a little slower.” What a perfect walk that will be! A stroll on the seawall without any possibility at all of a bruised ankle! As I am in my late 30s, I will have to wait at least 25 more years for a taste of this blissful walk but I am sure it will be well worth the wait! . Kelley Voyer West Vancouver Dear Editor: This is in response to Mr. and Mrs, Allan and the shame- ful letter they wrote about keeping strollers off the West Vancouver seawall. Did they have children of their own? fudging from their letter, I would guess not. This anti-child attitude coming from West Van docs not sur- prise me. J myself a mother of two have had numerous unpleasant encounters with snooty West Van seniors. It is absurd to even suggest a ban on taking your child outside for a stroll. What will proud grandparents think wher they would have to pay just to enjoy an hour of sun- shine with their infant grand- child. The fact is that strollers are needed. The Ailans would probably not like it if a run- ning toddler came from behind and bumped into them accidently causing them sd over stopping sea to fall. Hell, why don’t we just get rid of our parks and keep all children away from seniors and where they reside. Excuse me, we are not talking about dogs here! Yet dogs reccive better treatment than our children. We are talking about inno- cent children who- are con- stantly being pushed away and regulated by the arrogant, aging population of West Van. Irene Drogolor North Vancouver Dear Editor: Re: The ridiculous May 21 letter by the Allans. The seawall is for all the public to enjoy especially mothers with newborns: or would you rather have them cooped up in the house? So what's next?
