Murder acquittal

A NORTH Vancouver nian, facing a second-degree mur-
der charge was acquitted Thursday in BC. Supreme
Court.

Darryl Christopher Kirby was charged with murder
following the stabbing death of 2f-yeur-old Darren
dames Ford in Vancouver's West Rad.

A street brawl involving a confrontation between two
groups of youths on Nov, 14, 1992, resulted tin the death
of Ford and the serious injury of two other men.

Kirby's defence Inwyer successfully argued that the
charge Involved a case of mistaken identity,

Spray delays

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was subdued with OC
(Capsicum) spray on Muay 31 after police say he tried ie
eseape twice as they invesiigated # failed burglary on
Dollarton Highway.

According to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman,
two males were ailegedly iaterrupted from breaking into
4 computer room at the Canadian International College
Ine. by security guards.

The college is tocated at 2420 Dotlarton Hwy.

A dog team was called out to track the suspects whe
were last seen running south across Doarton Highway
at approximately 4:30 aa. A police officer, set ap in bis
car oear Amberst Avenue and Dollarton, subsequently
saw a man jump into the back of a dump truck parked
on the west side of Amherst.

The police officer told the man to lie down on the
ground, but police say the suspect got wp and ran, He
was stopped by the police dog which, by that time, had
tracked up to the dump truck.

The suspect tried to escape again and a police officer
used OC spray to subdue him.

“The suspect then complied to all requests,” accord-
ing to police.

Michael Rodney Baker, of North Vancouver, is
charged with obstructing a police officer and breaching a
recognizance order in connection with the incident.
