THERE WAS another sur-
prise party last week at the
Granville Island Hotel’s
Pelican Bay Restaurant.

JOY TELLS ALL

This time the birthday boy was
the flamboyant award-winning
hair stylist Richard Jeha, winner
of the America Cup and the
Canada Cup.

There were more than 100 hap-
py guests on hand to salute him
on his 51st birthday including his
family, Deep Cove talent agent
Ingrid McDougal, Sun fashion ed-
itor Virginia Leeming and her
daughter Victoria, Orestes’ shape-
ly Beverley Havif, West Van

The surprise party was orga-
nized by Richard’s lady love, the
vivacious owner of the Turnabout
shops, Joy Lapka, who was in
clinging purple lace.

It’s now official; Joy and
Richard are officially engaged!

But it almost didn't happen and
that’s because Richard has a bad
habit of never being on time. In
fact, he’s notorious for always be-
ing late!

Anyway, to mark their first
year of being together and to
celebrate Valentine’s Day, Richard
wanted to do something special.
Because they’re both avid Sonic
basketball fans he managed to
wangle tickets for the game in
Seattle.

Unbeknownst to Joy, Richard
had also arranged to have the
electronic sign to light up at
halftime with the words “‘I love
you, Joy! Will you marry me?”

Of course, with Richard’s re-
cord, they missed the entire first
half of the game — and the big
sign asking the all-important
question!

So after the game Richard had
to get down on bended knee and
asked the traditional question sur-
rounded by chilled champagne,
heart-shaped chocolates and silver
balloons. Joy was ecstatic!

Let’s just hope that Richard
isn’t too late for his wedding

West Van's casting agent Sid
Kozak.

Sid, whe is so busy these days
with casting movies that he some-
times forgets what day it is, was,
in turn, astonished on Friday
night when he walked into the El
Patio Restaurant for a quiet din-
ner with friends to realize that he
was a guest at his own surprise
birthday party.

of the hit musical production of
Joseph and the Amazing Techni-
calor Dreamceat, Donny Osmond,
wiii be flying in late tonight along
with Live Entertainment Corpora-
tion of Canada boss, Garth
Drabinsky.

Donny and Garth will be here
to talk to the assembled media
Monday morning about Andrew
Lloyd Webber's Joseph and His
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
which opens a 10-week run at the
Queen Elizabeth Theatre on
Thursday, May 27.
