A green trip takes granny to Alberta A NORTH Vancouver woman believes in ‘‘going green’’ when she travels, so much so that she went green all the way from the North Shore to Edmonton on her bicycle. Rita Speedtsbert, 56, a nurse at Lions Gate Hospital, recently spent nine days riding her 2I]- speed mountain bike from her North Vancouver home to Ed- reonton to visit her daughter and granddaughter. She said she had been thinking about taking the trip sjnce last summer. The wet weather forced her to abandon her plan to camp under the stars at night. “TI had planned to sleep in a ter:t all the way there but it rained all the time. I just rented motel =’ rooms along the way,’’ said scenery and saw a lot of wildlife.’’ She added that she also met a couple of other bicyclists along the way, a father and his son. Speedtsbert said that she did not have to train for her trip since she has always been bicycling. She plans to centinue her two-wheeled journey later this month when she rides her bicycle from Edmonton to Woking, Alberta, (near Grand Prairie) where she has a son.
