Her live shows are said to be pure dynamite. @ xxk* Diversions — American Prophecy (Diversions dvr 001) The Vancouver jazz scene is secing re-invig- oration thanks to a wave of talented voung artists willing to take artistic risks. Sax player Jon Bentley's trio Diversions is among the best of such groups to watch for. Bentley, Chris Gestrin on key- boards and Bernie Arai on drums are joined by Brad Turner, guesting on trumpet in this 1998 release. Bentley plays tenor and alto saxophones and composed nine of the 10 tracks on the dise. The closing track Gullptsion, is a yroup composition. Diversions dabbles in funk, clectrie jazz and free-form improvisations. Bentley looks to early electric Miles Davis, John Zorn’s Masada, Metalwood, and Herbie Hancock tor some of his inspiration.
