The hourglass fit of the new contoured fashions is bringing ‘fits’? to the home sewer, 2special- ly to those who have enjoyed the loose, full-fitted designs of the last few years. Help is on the way with Hazel Boyd, who was trained in New York by Vogue to teach the Vogue Professional Fitting programs. This North Vancouver-based, Tex-mar seminar leader says that fitting is the most difficult problem for most home sewers. Most instruction in the market- place has been in the form of lec- ture and demonstration by the in- structor. The student usually takes a pur- chased kit home and tries to decipher the contents alone, But most give up in despair. Vogue will take you one step further, with two additional five- hour intensive fitting workshops, with individual fittings. The initial two-and-a-half to three-hour seminar will cover all the basics on how to use the Vogue professional fitting program kits. With three years of pattern and dress design under European in- struction, Boyd appreciates the streamlined methods of translating the master dress pattern alterations to ail your fashion patterns. This technique eliminates the need to flat measure each pattern prior to cutting. There will be sample dress and pant fitting shells to try on in order to determine your approximate size. “In this day and age, with shortage of time, I prefer to let the major designers do the work, put- ting in the ease for the particular style, and then I make the minor changes with my fitted shell as the base,’’ says Boyd.
