Thieves break in
to post office

THE CHRISTMAS crunch ke the Cenada Post office at 100 East
Ist St. in North Vancouver was aggravated further Monday morn-
ing after thieves broke into the office over the weekend and walked
away with an undetermined/amount of cash and stamps.

A police investigation for evidence closed down the front office
untit noon Monday. .

North Vancouver RCMP believe thieves broke in through the
back door of the building.’ 'The investigation continues.

Anyone with information reparding the incident is asked to con-
tact the North Vancouver; RCMP at 985-1311.

Police seek
purse snatcher

'V house gets reprieve

A DILAPIDATED house at 6232
Wellington Ave. in’ West Van-
couver has been given a brief
reprieve from a demolition order
given at the Nov.2 West. Van-
couver District Council meeting.

Partially convineed by the
owners’ lawyer that reconstruction
of the house would soon be
underway, council agreed Dec. 14
to adjourn the matter until Jan.
I

At the November meeting, co-
owner of the house, Ken Lee, was
given 21 days after service of
notice in which to have the house
demolished or watch municipal
crews do the job at his expense.

The move came after two years
of suspended work on the old
house which had left the building
up On a support structure and had
led to numerous complaints from
area residents.

“The neighbors have been very
long suffering,”’ said Mayor Don
Lanskail.

But lawyer Sean Donovan came
before council to plead the case of
Lee’s co-owner. Mrs. Sakata, who
hopes to move into the house in
1988:

Donovan said that Lee had
advertised for contractors and had
chosen a number from which to
choose bids. Construction could be
expected to be complete by next
June, he claimed.

“More has happened in the past
month than in the past couple of
years,’’ Donovan said.

But council may insist that a
performance bond be purchased to
ensure completion of the house by
June.

Ald. Mark Sager was also con-
cerned that the insurance placed on
the building’ had been for a
building to be renovated, whereas
the job was closer to total con-
struction.
