Tug to sound salute NORTH SHORE residents, gathering to watch the flotilla of carol ships scheduled to pass by the Ambleside shoreline Sunday, Dec. 18, from 8 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., will be hearing more than carols coming from the decks of the his- toric steam tug S.S. Master. The tug’s operators plan a special whistle salute in recognition of the financial support the District of West Vancouver pro- vided to the S.S. Master Society last year. The whistle salute will be sound- ed with a newly-installed Klondike paddle steamer whistle and Second World War destroyer siren, The S.S. Master was built in 1922 by shipwright) Arthur Moscrop in False Creek. The ship fj is the on!y remaining wooden-hull- Jj ed steam tug still operating in its original form in North America. The ship also lays claim to being § the first carol ship in Vancouver waters, Running 8! feet long, 19 feet wide and drawing 12 feet of water, the S.S. Master will be adorned [i with green, amber and white lights this year.
