Training kills
CONFLICT

CONFLICT, whether on the battlefield, the boardroom or
the bedroom, is always painful.

But there are ways to lessen the
pain of conflict, according to Dan
and Jennie Keeran, who have
recently opened a Conftict Train-
ing Institute in their Deep Cove
home.

According to the Keerans, the
same skills wil! solve every level of
conflict from childish squabbles to
international stand-offs.

They suggest using language
which is concilliatory rather than
antagonistic: ‘“‘If conflict-decreas-
ing techniques and language could
be used by national leaders to con-
vey empathetic understanding of
an opposing nation’s feelings of
fear, anger, grief and hopes in-
stead of the name-calling, sarcastic
put-downs, and judgmental terms
(e.g. evil empire) ... negotiations
could proceed more quickly and
efficiently.”’
