Crosswalk safety called for

THE TRAGIC traffic acci-
dent that took the life of a
10-year-old girl last week at
the crosswalk beside Queen
Mary Community School
has caused North Vancouver
City Council to take some
action.

After reading the article in
the News, Ald, Dana Taylor
told council Monday he
would like a recommenda-
tion by municipal staff to be
put before council.

North Vancouver School

Board representative Ken
James discussed plans for
correcting the problem at the
busy crosswalk with deputy
City engineer Don
Bridgman.

Bridgman told the News
the City is looking at install-
ing illuminated crosswalk
indication signs, which he
said would be considered
“subject to the availability
of funds.”

the walk at about 5:30 April

one, a second car came up

The Burnaby girl, who

Gate Hospital of head inju-
ries at about 1:30 a.m.
Thursday morning. Accident
is under investigation.
