inguiring reporter Horseshoe Bay A regular user of the Lonsdale Recreation Centre con- tacted the News last week to point out that its parking lot is often a site of choice for driving school instruc- tion. Defining an accident as “something unexpected,” he wondered whether such regular practice might void the rec commission's third party insurance. North Shore Driving Schoo! owner Byron Briton said his instructors never use the lot if it is busy and added that his vehicles have never had an accident there in 40 years. Good for Briton. But there are other driving schools involved. So what about a few dedicated instructional spaces across the Lower Mainland where novice drivers could practise in relative safety? Municipalities might be persuaded to lease sites at nominal rates in return for the prospect of better road safety and fewer accidents.
