fee Manrsox Ree, Vander Zalm skirting the issue Dear Editor, 1 find it rather distressing to watch and listen to the reactions of our so-called ‘honorable’ poli- ticlans with respect to the Bud Smith tapes. Rather than face the major issue of the possible tampering of the judicial system by the man sworn to uphold it, the Social Credit wishes to ignore their col- league’s actions and focus instead on the way these tapes were brought to light. Although the question of monitoring and taping cellular phone calls (which, as far as we know is not illegal yet) is a con- cern for all who use them, the public has been misled by the premier’s ravings that the NDP have been bugging regular phone lines. If they had, would not the police be looking into this infrac- tion of the law? Or does the premier think the police are also onthe NDP mythical payroll? {1 do not think the public's in- terest is served by the premier fl- inging half-crocked accusations with no veracity. Perhaps it serves his own political needs. Already we have seen in the Sun’s letter column an outburst of paranoia. No one questions the actions of Bud Smith; no one ac- cepts the evidence that the NDP were not responsible for the tapes, they merely received them from someone concerned with the in- tegrity of our judicial system. The other slanderous comment Bike route Dear Editor: You are to be commended for your June 27 editorial on the situ- ation of hazards for bicycle traffic moving from the North Shore to Vancouver via the Lions Gate Bridge, and the need for weekday accommodation on the SeaBus. For my part I would like to leave my car at home and cycle to work. But, having tried it once, and having met the conditions you refer to, I am not too keen to try again unless either the bridge situ- ation can be better regulated or an alternative offered, such as the SeaBus or a cyclists only ferry from Dundarave pier to Stanley Computers, _- Books and Furniture Imagination Market for Kids Office and Lab Equipment Records, Toys, Sports Items THE SUPER’ SALE The World's Longest tod Sale SATURDAY, JULY 28 10 - 4, Macinnes Field Wesbrook Mail at University Blvd. (via 10th Ave.) Free admission and parking Bring your aluminum cans for recycling. My own elected member of parliament, Angus Ree, in a recent letter to the North Shore News, does everything but openly accuse the NDP of paying for the electronic surveillance of Bud Smith and he does it in a sleazy, underhanded way: the kind of political activity he seems to abhor. Not once does he concern himself with Mr. Smith’s actions. Mr. Ree and Mr. Vander Zalm fail to take into account that the government, clected by the people, is also responsible to the people. Weither man has tried to explain, or condemn, the actions of their colleague. They are more con- cerned with diverting the issue. It seems that the public has no right to know about the faults of the current government. The possible tampering with the judicia) system is a very serious concern for those of us who live by that system; I feel that we deserve to know if it has indeed been tampered with. Do they plan on withholding the RCMP report if it concludes that Bud Smith had tried tampering, and should be charged, as they overlooked the fact that the RCMP also conclud- ed that Bill Reid should be charg- ed? [’m sure that kind of tamper- ing with the judicial system would never occur here. Kevin Miller North Vancouver insufficient Park!
