Michael is here, along with nine other Schenley-represented wine experts, as part of the Playhouse’s 12th annual International Wine Festival which was launched Wednesday night at the Van- couver Trade & Convention Cen- tre with a very gala bacchanalian dinner party, all in celebration of the grape. The festival, which continued with international wine competi- tions, testings, tastings, seminars and other dinners throughout the five days, winds up this afternoon with a Vintners Brunch. In all, there were 102 wineries from 11 countries participating and they supplied 340 wines. The wine festival was on at the same time as Viva ‘90, the food and beverage extravaganza, which is also winding up today at the VT&CC. Viva ’90 officially opened on Thursday morning by highlighting The Grocery Bag of the Future, a giant shopping bag, 18 ft. high, 12 ft. long and eight ft. deep!... There’s very good reason why Shawn Pozer is involved. While he and his brother, Matt, were still students at St. George's, they in- vented the game, “Junior Trivia’ and sold more than 1.5 million games worldwide. Shawn went to UBC for two years and then became a skiing teacher at Blackcomb. This led to an exciting job as a ski coach in Japan. But exactly one year ago, poor health caused him to return home. After undergoing several tests and an operation to remove a swollen lymph gland, Shawn was told that he had Hodgkin’s disease or lymph nede cancer. On May 8, he began chemotherapy with Dr. Jaseph Connors at the Cancer Clinic. Last September, after four months of treatment, he heard the best news in the world — that his body was free of cancer! So who better to make the big pitch, than someone who has been there? It was also a very emotional and thought-provoking morning for all, those attending...
