YOUR MAN Doug is now being pursued by something called Integrity Vanceuver, ‘‘An Organization for Gay and Lesbian Anglicans and their Friends’’. | don’t think they want my body, but they do want my head. There is a long line of citizens who would pay to see me dropped and topped, even though they are against capital punishment. But Integrity Vancouver is unique in that it is connected with both the church and pansydom., (My man Vic of the famous watering hole says that Integrity Vancouver holds its meetings in the organ loft. He may be right, but ! don't follow these things that closely.) As is well known, | consider homosexuality to be a menace. Not that | am what is known as “homophobic’*. But I do not subscribe to the view that as “God's Botch”. Which itis. In the U.S., for example, of 35,000 cases of AIDS, all but two per cent are homos. The same ratio applies in Canada. Anyway, John McGeragle and Dennis Lou-Hing, secretary and president respectively of Integrity Vancouver, take exception to my works and wrote to the powers on this newspaper as follows: “We were deeply offended by Collins's recent and now in- famous diatribe on AIDS, entitled “Homosexuality Kills’*. No in- formed person, gay or otherwise, can fail to be outraged by the ig- ioug Collins ® get this straight ® hateful piece of writing. “As Christians, we are par- ticularly dismayed by Collins’s suggestion that God is smiting our sinful human race with AIDS..."° (When J call AIDS God's Batch, boys, | am not talking about a god of religion, but of nature.) They continue: “We deplore the pervasive cynicism in Collins's approach -- an approach which delights in set- ting people against one another, but has yet to offer a single con- structive suggestion that would create unity rather than strife. We are forced to the conclusion that the man is a misanthrope...FHis vi- sion of human nature is able to encompass a Hitler or a Caligula, but not a Gandhi or a Christ.”” ! dose make such suggestions, 1 9 - Friday, September 11, which your misguided church is so keen on, and that we do away with such abominations as the Commonwealth, which is full of whited sepulchres. [also suggest that AIDS cases be quarantined. My list of constructive suggestions is endless, These chaps complain further that if I had been around in Christ's day, I would not have ap- proved of him. ‘He was of uncer- tain parentage; he did not work; he preferred the company of the poor and the powerless; he was highly critical of the establish- ment, and he preached a revolu- tion of the social order..."” They are quite right. But then I do not pretend to be a Christian, of whom there are very few. Besides, what is the point of their argument? That Christ approved 1987 - North Shore News They ended their epistle to the News this way: “We feel you are doing the community a great disservice by giving Collins free rein to stir up latent fears and anxieties... We ask you to consider whether this is worthy of a respected publication such as the North Shore News.’” OF course it is. Who else will take on Satan? And don’t forget that although | may be a stumbl- ing barbarian, Onward Christian Soldiers is my favorite hymn, if only because the multiculters disapprove of it, Remind me to send these people my book of North Shore News columns, due to be published in October, Its title will be The Best And Worst Of Doug Collins. 1 wouldn't wani them to miss of homosexuality?
