Three generations of Stewart's family are in Capilano school yearbooks. Her mother Myrtle (Forrest) Bjarnason went to Capilano from 1936 to 1943. Stewart attended from 1957 to 1964, and Stewart's three sons Tyler, Ryan and Kyle ~re currently enrolled there. “The school is a part of us,”’ she said. ‘It’s like home.’’ Ste..art and Bjarnason helped to ; Here's what your ‘“checkpcint’‘ deater gives you 3 & or less most 6 gl. cars. for Safe Winter Driving. organize the reunion, which ihey’re calling ‘ta blast from the past.”’ Also on the organizing commit- tee, formed one year ago, are Marilyn Coan, Ann Barregar and Joan Emri. Coan said she expects many of Capilano’s former students will at- tend the reunion tonight and Saturday, because so many still live in the area. She said one of the school’s first students, 90-year-old Robert Kells, will be on hand. Kells attended the school in 1913. Coan is compiling historical in- formatio:. on the school, which Service & Flush Special $7988 This special includes: NO TROUBLE CAR CARE FROM ESSO Cooling System | This special indudes: opened September 8, 1908. She said the school originally opened at the corner of Keith Road and Capilano, but when it expanded it moved to its present location in Pemberton Heights. Stewart said because the school is such a_ big focus in the neighborhood, a feeling of close- ness has developed among residents. On Friday former students and teachers only are invited to a reu- nion at the school, beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday guests are also invited to a dance at Carson Graham School, at 8 p.m. Oil and Filter Special $988 Braemar-Dempsey link, an east- west roadway connecting Braemar Road and Dempsey Road. The connector has been on the municipality’s planned future street system drawing board for over 20 years. But the question of when con- struction could start will be left unanswered until later next month when council considers a_ staff report on traffic implications of residential development in the Kilmer Creek area. A motion by Ald. Joan Gadsby calling for a report addressing the estimated cost and timing of the Braemar-Dempsey link was defeated with Ald. Segal, Dykeman and Crist opposed. Responding to input from over 120 residents at an Oct. ! public meeting and to the recommenda- tions made in a North Lonsdale plan traffic study released in June, council wrestled with the question of how to spread current and pro- jected traffic loads equitably throughout the neighborhood. The traffic study points out that streets designed for local usage such as Wellington Drive, are serv- ing as arterial routes for com- muters. The new link proposal would reduce demands on both local roads and east-west arterial roads such as East 29th Street. But future demands on the neighborhood’s roads will be in- creased as the district opens up more development including a proposed 426 homes for the North Lonsdale/Kilmer Creek area. “It was made clear at the public meeting that no one wants more traffic, but some are bearing an unfair load. There will be more traffic, the community is grow- ing,’’ said Ald. Mary Segal. ‘‘The more secondary roads carried through to other secondary roads, the smoother and safer the traffic flow will be.’’ But Ald. Craig Clark argued council hold off any decision pen- ding assessment of traffic changes in the area after the Lonsdale- Upper Levels highway overpass proposed by the provincial gov- ernment has been built. “I'm not in favor of a cross- town link. The real demand is still north-south.’”” elip to S litres of Esso Extra 10W30 tiotor oil Atlas Oil Filter® {metric filter axtia) Pressure test system eCheck heater hoses, rad cap, fan belts und recovery system Flush cooling system LABOUR only — ports ond coolant extra An estimate belore proceed Notification of ony extra work oF charges teavied belore we do it.
