Argyle take title ARGYLE BATTERS over- whelmed Sutherland in the first game of the junior high school softball champion- ship, on their way to a 2-0 sweep of the best out of five series. Sutherland’s regular pit- cher was missing from the action of the first game, and Argyle made the most of the opportunity, chalking up a 17-0 final score. Argyle won the second game 7-1 on Wednesday to grab the junior girls softball crown. In the first game, the win- ning pitcher was Vicky Turowski (she also won the second game), who hit a home run as well. Arlene Adolf also hit a homer, while Laura Staite had a triple. The key play in the second game was a_ bases-loaded double by Callie McCrae in the fifth inning that effec- tively wrapped up the championship for Argyle. NS cricketers lose On Saturday the North Shore Cricket Club first team lost an exciting and keenly contested game to Burrard C.C. by a mere six runs despite another superb innings of 43 runs by interim- Captain Howard Griffiths, and good supportive batting by P. Pisani, R. Herbert, K. Bradshaw, S. Evans and G. Maingot. Batting first on a very hot afternoon, Burrard C.C. were restricted to 105 runs, as a result of fine fielding and good bowling by N.S.C.C. spear-headed by R. Herbert, B. Simms, K. Brad- shaw and H. Griffiths. Bur- rard C.C. batsman §S. Jaffar was both elegant and punishing as he scored a delightful 53 runs. He was ably supported by fellow- batsmen M. Cherry and Z. Shariff. Burrar C.C. bowled and fielded equally well. Final scores: Burrard C.C. 105, N.S.C.C. 99. On Sunday the N.S.C.C. Second team suffered their first defeat of the season when they bowled Rich- mond C.C. for a mere 49 runs at Brockton Point but could only score 34 runs in reply. It was a sad loss for N.S.C.C. after some fine bowling by P. Cantelli, J. Matthews and K. Hira. It was also a sad loss in view of the miatch-saving innings played by Jim Matthews and Joe Prescott the previous week. On this occasion the N.S.C.C. batsmen simply failed to get going, thereby registering their lowest score to date. 500 brave heat When the temperature is over 30, what better to do than go for a run.
