EE AOE Al9 - Wednesday, February 16, 1983 - North Shore News HE community roundup Neighborhood Watch helps NEIGHBORHOOD Wat- ch, the proven program which not only prevents many community crimes but often leads to the return of stolen items to theft victims, is now being delivered direct to homes in the very communities it is designed to protect. Police on the North Shore now visit the homes of residents wishing to become involved in Neighborhood Watch. Their only requirement is arrange’ for that anyone requesting them to make a _ presentation should ensure there are at least 15-20 people present to address. Since the success of Neighborhood Watch relies on community cooperation, the idea is that whoever 1s planning to host the in- formation evening should affected members of the same community to be present. Once it has been set up, an officer will attend on an evening agreeable to those participating and detail the three primary ingredients of a successful Neighborhood Watch program: . 1. A cooperative program among families in the area, incorporating an observation and reporting program which makes the neighborhood more secure; 2. Property identification using engravers, which not only deters burglars from bothering to steal the items but also ensures recovered items can be returned to their owners; 3. Home security upgrading and advice on personal security.
