Michelle Resch and David Howe significantly improved their 1979 placement by taking second spot while Bonnie Epp and Leonard Warkentin, in their first year together, came a close third. Epp and Warkentin are what might be termed prolific skaters: Epp came fifth in the novice ladies event and Warkentin came fourth in senior men’s and, with his siter Karen, came third in senior dance. ARTISTRY REWARDED The North Shore can’t claim an event winner in the pre-novice division but it can boast two artistic awards and a second place finish by Sharmen Vigouret and Marvin Warkentin in dance and a third place by Colin Epp in men’s. Vigouret, Warkentin and Epp are all from the Winter Club, as is Matthew Hall who won the Junior Artistic Award for the most artistic skating by a male in the pre- novice and novice divisions. Hall, 13, won the same award at the regional competition at Holiyburn last month, delighting spectators with his fine form. Hollyburn’s Anita Lyn Fischer won the ladies’ Junior Artistic award with accomplished technique, control and flow in her skating. The senior artistic awards were won by senior men’s champion Dennis Coi and junior ladies’ champion Andrea Hall. The Edward S. Barton Memorial Awards for music went to Hollyburn's Dionne Patz, third in junior ladies’ and Kerrisdale’s Gordon Rushton, third in junior men’s. As well as the proficient winners the BC Section Championships revealed a considerable depth of talent awaiting a chance to shine. While the North Shore continues to produce the bulk of top BC skaters, other communities are increasing their contributions. It does not seem unrealistic to predict that BC might boast a national and even a world champion within the decade. Blizzard 7500 or 5500 and Everesf (all models) DECEMBER 1 -22, 1980.
