WEST VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL By Maureen Curtis Coun. Ron Wood introduced the $103 million (including school and other levies) 1995 budget at the May 8 council meeting. He noted that general taxation is EYP actually going up 1.87%. But the net effect on the average taxpayer will be a slight decrease of 0.8%, thanks to a zero increase in municipal taxes and a 1.7% decrease in school, Greater Vancouver Regional District and “other” levies. Accounting for increased assess- ment values due to new construction also offsets a slight increase in spending by the municipality. Taxes imposed are based on the assessed value of property. A West Vancouver resident with the average tax rate and levy of about $3.481 (before the homeown- er grant), saw his or her property increase the average amount, by 2.4% in value, or. from about- $518,739 to $529,736, Properties which increased in value by more than the average may experience a jump in taxes. Municipal taxes account for about 55% of the tax rate of $6.57 per $1,000 of assessed property value, while school taxes account for another 38%. The Ambleside and Dundarave Ratepayers’ Association (ADRA) continues its criticism of municipal spending. Your gift of love available in her favourite sizes. and colours. Dobvered Le.
