Many of these pangs, they claim, are formed more for
the sake of protection than aggression. Many kids com-
plain that if four of them are walking down the street
they are looked upon as a roving band of thugs, when
really they’re just hangin’ with their friends.

. RECENT NORTH Shore News headlines have chronici-
ed the disturbing rise of violent acts committed by
groups of teens on the North Shore.

But in talking with members of the teen population,
the common sentiment is that the press is making too
big a deal of ‘“‘gangs’’ taking over the suburban jungle.
