THE NORTH Vancouver City
Fire Department is advising
people not to burn anything
other than wood in fireplaces.

The warning comes after a
Nov. 10 incident in which fire
crews were dispatched to a
possible house fire.

But firefighters found resi-
dents of a house burning
plastic bags full of garbage in
their fireplace.

City fire Insp. Dave Burgess

said that chimneys are not
designed to handie fires that
burn anything other than wood
and that burning garbage in
fireplaces violates Greater
Vancouver Regional District
pollution control regulations.

““You should only use clean,
dry wood in your fireplace,
and you should have your
chimney cleaned at least once a
year,’’ said Burgess.
