Local THE North Shore Health Region will provide eight North Shore community 2gen- cies with a share of over $490,000 in grants this year. The grants are issued annu- ally by the NSHIR to non-prof- it groups and agencies for pro- grams to address specific health and well-being con- cerns of North Shore resi- dents. This year, a total of S417,988 will be provided for 1] programs. These range from a program to assist: par- ents in improving the health of their children, to a support nctwork for mental health patients. The list of agencies, pro- grams and grants is: @ North Shore Keep Well Society — Keep Well Program ($47,627). The program pro- motes the health and weil being of seniors and attempts to increase awareness of com- munity health resources; @ North Shore Stroke Recovery Centre — Stroke Recovery Program {(§ 37,391). The program helps stroke sur- vivors to maintain optimal functioning in a home setting; a North Shore Neighbourhood House — Seniors Outreach Golden Circle Program ($15,000), The program promotes well- ness education, opportunities for social interaction, and mul- ticultural interaction; B Capilano | Community Services Society — Senior's Hub ($52,163). The program works to bridge gaps in ser- vices for frail and isolated seniors; B North Shore Community Services — Senior’s One Stop Information Line ($45,580). The program provides intor- mation and support to seniors about services within the com- munity; @ North Shore Volunteers for Seniors — Keeping Seniors out of Acute Care ($51,495). The program helps seniors to overcome isolation while pro- moting independence; a North Shore Neighbourhood House — Nobody's Perfect Parenting Program ($5,300). The pro- gram offers assistance to peo- ple to access services, benefits, education and other resources; @ BCSS North Shore Branch — Family Suppert Centre ($59,432). The centre offers families personal support and programs get grants information about mental ill- Ness; u North Neighbourhood House —- Sentor’s Peer Counseling ($10,000). The program pro- vides counselling and support to seniors experiencing lite changes due to retirement, iso- lation, health problems or per- sonal loss.
