Spartans win B.C. tennis crown RELYING ON their boys, especially the undefeated doubles team of Jon Miller and Chris San- toso, Sentinel Spartans won their fourth straight B.C. high school boys’ and girts’ tennis champion- ship in Richmond June 1. The victory betters the Spar- tans’ record of three straight championships first set in 1975-77 and is their eighth title in the tourney’s 16-year history. It also marks the final year for Mickey Muir — the coach-sponsor since 1985, including the last four years with Lois Muraro — as he retires from teaching this month. Sentinel dumped Victoria’s St. Michael’s 4-2, Langley’s Brookswood 9-2 and Vancouver’s Kitsilano 10-1 to place first in one of the 16-team tournament's four ¥ sections of four schools before coming up against tough competi- tion in the championship rounds. The North Shore champions edged both Prince of Wales of Vancouver and Centennial of Co- quitlam by 6-5 scores, then took Vancouver College-Little Flower Academy 7-4 in the title match. Miller and Santoso, who were named the tournament's best boys’ doubles team, will be around for a while yet. They are in Grade 10 and 9 respectively. In fact all the boys will be back. Alex Klimek, who came from a 0-3 deficit to win his key singles match on a tiebreaker in the final, and Scott Moore, who played singles most of the time, are both in Grade 11. So are Hamid Shahbazi and Derek Petersen, while Monte Weinfeld is in Grade 10. But three girls graduate: Maryam Moayeri, Nadine Vigny and Sandra Weinfeld. Nargas Adab and all-around athiete Julie Harris are in Grade 9. The youngest returnee will be Zahra Ahamed who is in Grade 7. Coach Wing Chow's Carson Graham Eagles, who qualified for their first B.C. tournament since 1983, were squeezed out of the championship bracket after a complicated three-way tie in their section resulted in relegation to consolation play. Despite this disappoiniment, they came back with three strong wins to claim ninth place, while Centennial and Richmond, the teams with which they were tied, finished third and fourth. good... « Flush and drain the cooling system « instali up to 4 litres of Autopar 4 Season antifreeze/ coolant * Check radiator cap, thermostat, belts and hoses. $4Q95 ENGINE TUNE-UP ¢ Instalt new Autopar spark plugs « Check plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, coi', PCV valve, belts, hoses, compression, air filter and battery * Adjust timing and idle — (NIA injected vehicies) 5665 $7 Gs 4 cyl. 6 cyl. $7 $7 49s V6 cyl. 8 cyl.
