CBC. ‘clarifies. information regarding accident claims Dear Editor: We would like to correct some points “made in a recent Help’s at ' Hand ‘column published in the North Shore News. In one inquiry regarding ICBC’s claims review procedures, the col- umn says that asking the corpora- tion to review an adjuster’s deci- sion costs $25. The cost, in fact, is ‘The item also says that if ICBC’s Claims Review Committee upholds an adjuster’s decision on an accident claim that you would not be able to sue the driver of the other vehicle. This is incorrect. You may proceed with court action if you wish. In a response to another inquiry in the same issue, the writer ad- dresses the issue of whose driving record is affected by a claim. Jam presuming I have the same right as you to express a very definite opposite opinion to your letter to the editor headlined Doug Collins’ way is not the Reform Party way -- North Shore News, June 4, Can you not agree that, for the sake of the future of the Reform Party in British Columbia, enough damage has already been done to the party image, resulting from the gross political blunder perpetrated at, and subsequent to, the debacle of the West Vancouver-Howe Sound nomination meeting? The choice by the ‘grass roots’’ con- stituents of the North Shore en- dorsed Doug Collins by a huge majority. |. - Either minimize further damage by silence, or better, admit to pro- viding misguided advice to Preston Manning. Perhaps, had it not been for the few in West Van, White Rock and Quadra ridings who deplore Doug as a racist bigot, the Reform Party could well have two or more Reform MPs instead of Mary Collins and Chuck Cook. - "_ The party may not have suffered. from your actions in other pro- vinces, but here in B.C. there were countless votes lost. A basic precept of the Reform Party is that the party leader shall have no authority to override the nomina- tion of a candidate selected and approved of by the constituents. You may recite a technicality in the party constitution, but it just won't fly... The Reform Party. has a -plat- form and statement of principles which satisfy and appeal to the disenchanted voters of B.C. Let’s be done with the dirty Iaundry and get on with living up to what the party stands for — the right of “grass roots’’ constituents to pick and approve of their candidate. Let’s be sure we do not deprive someone else with the intelligence, courage and convictions of a Doug Collins to go to Ottawa. — Have a W.A.C. Bennett famous “second look’? If any person driving the vehicle. is more than 25 per cent responsi- ble for an accident, the registered owner of that vehicle will lose three discount levels on ICBC’s Claim-Rated Scale. If the coverage on the vehicle lapses or is cancelled by the registered owner, only then would the record ef the principal driver be affected. - In the same item, the writer sug- gests that where one person in a family has been at fault in an acci- dent, another family member could be named as the vehicle’s principal driver in order to main- tain the discount on the Claim- Rated Scale. This type of evasion can cause serious difficulties for the individ- W% uals involved, especially if another accident occurs and it’s learned ~ that the person named as the prin- cipal driver is not the one who usually drives the vehicle. At the very least, this is a form of cheating, the kind that leaves other motorists to ‘foot the bill’* for the extra money some people try to avoid paying into the auto in- surance fund. - ‘We would like to remind your’ readers that ICBC provides ser- vices for people needing informa- tion on auto insurance or heip with their claims.
