The money carwash. was raised through bottle drives, penny drives, a raffle and Students raise funds for LGH BURRARD VIEW Community School students exemplified the spirit of giving this winter with the presentation of their final contribution to Lions Gate Hospital’s new infant monitor. That cheque, presented at the hospital, brought ihe total money raised by the school children to $3,000. At that time they got to see the infant monitor hooked up and in use. “it gave them a_ tangible understanding of how good it feels to give. This has taught the children a lot,’ commented LGH’s development director Melanie Wheating. What turned out to be a year long fund-raising campaign at Burrard View started with a talk given by some nurses, who hap- pened to mention the hospital’s need for an infant monitor. The students got to work and raised $1,175 through a penny drive. Then 11! Grade 7 students decided to take the project further. Calling themselves ‘“The Deep Cove Kids,’’ the group organized a car wash and bicycle raffle that netted them another $1,200.
