IMS has been in the business of
providing uniforms and army
surplus vehicles to the feature film

and television industry since 1981.
AS a reserve army major, David-
son-Newby oversaw the military
uniforms and equipment used for
the Rambo movie First Blood.

Among the many projects the
company was brought on board
for last year, the film Christmas in
Saigon saw IMS-clad pseudo-U.S.
Marines and Viet Cong fighting it
out on Second Beach in Van-
couver.

In anticipation of the downturn
in focal film activity due to the
prolonged scriptwriters’ strike
down south, IMS decided to jump
into the army surplus retail mar-
ket. The decision has paid off with
a second retail outlet opening at
Guildford Town Centre 3% weeks
ago. Two more Lower Mainland
stores are planning to open later
this year — one in Richmond and
one in East Vancouver.

Said Davidson-Newby: ‘Our
biggest problem was convincing
our bank manager that we could
borrov. against an inventory of
10,000 uniforms and a collection
of army surplus vehicles.”

So far in addition to a solid in-
volvement with the local movie in-
dustry, IMS has shipped supplies
as far east as Ontario and is also
developing business in Washington
State and Oregon.
