Easton, the first coach of the Vancouver Whitecaps, claims the one area where North American youth players fall behind their British and European counterparts is in having no opportunity to train with professional clubs. Southampton boasts Peter Shilton, perhaps the best goalkeeper in the world, while Dundee United has at least six of the Scottish National team players in their ranks. Since leaving professional soc- cer, Easton has maintained his ties with the game and has remained active in youth soccer. Says Easton, ‘‘The trip is open to all players between the ages of 15 and 19, but they must believe they have the skill level to train with these other young profes- sionals.”’ . The players will play against each club’s youth team as well as two other games arranged by Southampton and Dundee United.
