30 - Wednesday, December 3, 1986 - North Shore News Lifestyles. telemarketing campaign THE BRITISH Columbia Coati- tion of the Disabled has launched its first major telemarketing com- paign to raise money needed to continue its operations. The campaign began with a mailout of 25,000 letters written by board member Rawnie Dunn, a disabled woman and_ longtime associate of the coalition. The mailing will be followed by phone calls over December. Although the coalition receives federa) and municipal funding, the bulk of its income is raised through fund-raising programs. Due to a large increase in de- mand for the services offered by the coalition including advocacy, self-help workshops and educa- Hional conferences, it has become necessary for the coalition to undertake new fund-raising methods. The coalition operates with the assistance of a core of upprox- imately 200 volunteers and four staff people. Its members include not oniy those who are physically disabled but also people who have hearing and visual impairments and people with learning and men- tal disabilities. Through the campaign the coali- tion hopes not only to raise much needed money but also to increase public awareness of its activities.
