12 - Sunday, October 20, 1985 - North Shore News inquiring reporter Barrett Fisher AN ALL -PARTY parliamentary committee will be coming out with several recommenda- tions this week on improving equality in Canada. One of those recommendations is to give women the right to fight in combat in the armed forces. Inquiring reporter asks people on the street if they agree or disagree with such a philosophy. Today’s question is: Should women fight in the armed forces? Ed Mallett North Vancouver Women want to be equal in all ways, so if that’s their wish to become part of the military, then | believe.it’s their right. Jacqueline Rutledge North Vancouver I guess if they want an army career, why shouldn’t they be able to. 1 think some women are tougher than men — but IT wouldn’t want to. Glennis Bancroft . North Vancouver 1 think they should. It should be their choice. If they want to, they should be able to. Colin Harris North Vancouver _ | think it’s a good idea because there’s no reason why they shouldn’t. Men are stronger than women physicaily, but I don’t see that as being a probiem. Chris Lepine Harrison Mills I do not think they should, but that is not the only thing I feel women should not do. Women do not have the abilities to fight without being badly hurt.
