C8 - Sunday, April 15, 1984 - North Shore News SENIORS, get ready to strut your stuff in the Ist Annual Vancouver Senior Strut! Vancouver Semor Strut has been created to promote and raise funds for seniors’ organizations throughout the city on Friday, June 15. The Strut is not a race or marathon, but a_ leisurely route through downtown Vancouver, less than one mile in length. Strutters will assemble at Terry Fox Plaza and proceed en masse down Beatty St. to W. Georgia St., along Georgia to Granville St., and south on Granville to Robson St. The Strut will finish at Robson Square where prizes, refreshments, displays and eptertainment will complete the day’s events. The route selected offers easy access, high visibility and does not include any steep hilis or difficult terrain. In addition, there are two large areas that will serve as tie-in points (at Hamilton and Georgia and at Granville and Georgia) where strutters can rest and collect their numbers. Robson Square has wheelchair access and there will be a St. John’s am- bulance and wheelchair van stationed on Granville St. for the duration of the Strut. Participation in the Strut ts open to anyone who is con- cerned about the seniors in their community, to. all seniors and al! seniors’ Organizaiions. Strutters will coliect pledges from friends, relatives, nenghbors and local businesses for their partici pa- tion in the Stn. Pledges are for participa- tion and not for distance done. So, strutters may walk, jog, roll or stroll the entire route, or begin at éne of the tie-in points along the route. Monies raised will go to the participating seniors’ Organization in the strutter’s community. A small percen- tage (3 per cent of less) will be held aside for the operating costs of the 2nd Annual Van- couver Semor Strut °85. WHAT IS ON THE BARGAINING TABLE IN THE TRANSIT DISPUTE. Your bus drivers are negotiating with the highest paid transit management group in North America — many eaming over $65,000.00 a year. Drivers’ salaries are $28,216.00 a year but because MTOC has refused to hire more full-time drivers we end up working 260,000 hours of overtime in order to maintain the service you now have. In a province with '4 million unemployed that could mean 135 new full-time jobs. While the bureaucrats eam $65,000 a year, your bus drivers don't even get lunch or coffee breaks. Now the company demands several major concessions, taking away working conditions that date back 50 years.
