PE mailbox ie Wild ducks kill tame Dear Editor This is an open letter to the person or persons who aban- doned four domestic ducks at the duck pond at Ambleside, West Vancouver. Perhaps, in your ignorance of Nature and her wildlife, you thought you were doing what was best for the Muscovy ducks when, one day, they grew out of their cute stage into large mature birds. Perhaps it was too much work for you. You should know that these helpless creatures would have died a more hor- rible death than if you had taken a gun and put a bullet through their heads. At this particular time of year, when wild and cross- breed ducks and geese are fighting for mates and ter- ritory, a fight to kill goes on. Any newcomers are attacked by more aggressive birds and are quickly drowned. Lucki- ly, these frightened, bewildered and confused ducks did not go into the water but remained on the tiny island in the duck pond. How they escaped from at- tack as they swam over to the island is a mystery. These little Muscovy ducks were lucky that a team of wildlife rescuers learned of their plight and = rescued them. Meanwhile the birds had gone without food for four days, as they were too afraid and did not know where to find food. 1 beg all domestic duck and goose owners to please not Council invites tax revolt Dear Editor: 1 would like to submit the following open letter to coun- cil of the District because | would like my fellow District residents to know we are be- ing driven to the poor house without anybody realizing. Dear Mayor and Council of the District: I am very much disturbed by your lack of awareness of the economic hard times we are going through. We have heard of lost jobs at Kodak, Schlage and Park & Tilford. People are losing Disgusted Dear Editor: While reading the April 6 edition of the North Shore News, my attention” was captured by lan Smith's photograph titled “‘Stul fighting for WV peace sign” jobs or being forced to ‘*retire’’ early. These people can certainly nor afford any increased taxation. They are doing with less. Your decision to spend money on consultants for the study of the crosstown route is nothing but a waste of tax- payers’ money. Your revision of the com- munity's plans along with passing senseless bylaws that lead to court actions 15 nothing more than a waste of money and harrassment.
