Twenty five years of laughs

TWENTY FIVE years of bliss it hasn’t been. But
for Tom and Dick Smothers, who celebrate their
silver anniversary as a comedy team this year, life

has been eventful, and — most of the time — a lot
of fun.

Even their comedy is still
the same gentle buffoonery
of their TV shows. ‘‘We
don’t stoop to the low level
of having content,’’ says
Dick. Tom agrees, ‘‘We're
probably the most unquoted
comics,’’ but the success of
the act depends on its basic
appeal: the sibling spats and
**making fun of each other,
jyibing each other is” still
funny ”’

The age shows more oft
stage, as you note the greying
hair, odd wrinkle and two
pairs of glasses ‘‘l only wear
them to see, Dickie wears
them for cosmetics,”’ Tom
