STROLEE GT 2000
Car seat may be dangerous

OVER 2,100 car seats have been
shipped into Canada that do not
comply ‘with Canadian motor
vehicle safety standards for infant
restraint systems.

When used in the rear-facing in-
fant position, the GT 2000,
manefactured vy Strolee of
California, reclines more than the
70° angle allowable under Cana-
dian regulations. This means that
in a frontal collision, there is a risk
that an infant may be ejected from
the carrier or that the shoulder
harness may compress the infant’s
spinal column, causing injury.

At this time, neither Transport
Canada nor Strolee has had any
report of a motor vehicle accident
in which injury resulted from the
non-compliance problem iden-
tified.

To determine if a GT 2000 is af-
fected by the public notice, con-
sumers should check the underside
of the seat. There will be three
screws attaching the seat to its
base.

If the recessed bolt at the front
of the child restraint is silver, not
brass, then the seat needs correc-
tive action. Owners are advised to
return their seat to the original
