2 - Friday, November Squamish man faces 3 charges By Anna Marie D'Angelo News Reporter A 47-year-old Squamish man faces numerous charges fol- Jowing a robbery at the Subway Sandwiches shop in Central Lonsdale on Sunday. A suspect led police on a car chase over the Second Narrows Bridge. Leonard Richard Van Dyke is charged with rob- bery, dangerous driving and carrying a concealed weapon (a knife). The North Vancouver RCMP recommended an additional charge of causing police to enter into a pursuit. That charge was not approved by the Crown ice in North Vancouver. There are two reasons for a judge to keep an accused person in custody before the end of court proceedings. The judge considers whether it is likely the accused will not show up for court or “flee.” Public safety is the other issue. Cockfield said Van Dyke was sentence to three years in jail in 1990 for robbery.
